SouthEast Road Reconstruction Program Updates

Broening Highway Closure April 26th @ 7 PM to April 29th @ 6 AM

As work continues to progress on Broening Highway, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of Broening Highway will be closed this weekend for utility construction work.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 Broening Highway will be closed to through traffic between Holabird Avenue and Dunhill Road with detours in effect. This portion of Broening Highway will remain closed until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013.

Local traffic will be maintained for area businesses. Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Broening Highway Closure April 19th to April 22nd

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of Broening Highway will be closed this weekend for utility construction work.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 Broening Highway will be closed to through traffic between Holabird Avenue and Dunhill Road with detours in effect. This portion of Broening Highway will remain closed until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013.

The closure will extend approximately 300-400 feet past the east and west end of the Colgate Creek Bridge. Traffic traveling southbound and northbound on Broening Highway will be detoured via Holabird Avenue and Dundalk Avenue.  Traffic approaching Broening Highway via Keith Avenue will be detoured through the newly constructed ramp and given the option of going north or south on Broenng Highway   Traffic traveling to I-95 via northbound Broening Highway (north of closure) will be detoured via Holabird Avenue.

Construction to begin on Dundalk Avenue on or about Monday, December 10,2012

Conduit work will begin at Eastern Avenue and move southeast towards Gusryan Street .  While traveling in the area please be aware of lane closures.  Contained work zones will be used to minimize long term closures or wide spread traffic disruptions.  At least one lane of traffic will remain open in both directions throughout construction.

Dundalk Avenue Streetscape Notice to Proceed (NTP): November 26, 2012

The Department of Transportation is pleased to announce that the Notice to Proceed (NTP) date for the Dundalk Avenue Streetscape project is today, November 26, 2012.  The project length is two years and includes multiple streetscape improvements along Dundalk Avenue (from Eastern Avenue to the south city limit) making the street safer and more attractive for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.  When traveling in the area please be aware of detour signs, reduce speeds, and use caution.

Southeast Intersection Improvements: Project Overview

Project Locations:

  • Site 1: O’Donnell Street from S. Ponca Street to Interstate Avenue
  • Site 2: O’Donnell Street Cut-off at Interstate Avenue
  • Site 3: Boston Street from S. Ponca Street to Haven Street
  • Site 4: Boston Street & S. Clinton Street

Project Timeframe:

  • Construction for all four sites is expected to begin Fall 2012 with work concluding in Fall 2013

Project Scope:

The intersection enhancements have been designed to improve safety and capacity at key intersections within the Southeast Project Area. Specific improvements include the following:

  • Site 1: Widening to accommodate a dedicated right turn lane in the eastbound approach
  • Site 2: Full depth pavement reconstruction
  • Site 3: Widening and conversion of westbound right turn lane to a shared right-through lane
  • Site 4: Conversion of existing parking lane to a dedicated right turn lane in the eastbound approach; stormwater management enhancements and landscape beautification
