Broening Highway Reconstruction: Project Overview

Project Limits:

  • Broening Highway from Holabird Avenue to just south of the Colgate Creek Bridge

Project Timeframe:

  • Construction on Colgate Bridge is expected to begin in mid-October 2012 with a shorter four to six week completion timeframe
  • Construction along Broening Highway is expected to begin mid-October 2012 with an anticipated completion in Fall 2014

Project Scope:

  • The purpose of the project is to improve the roadway infrastructure and vehicular movements, and establish a key connection from Southbound Broening Highway to I-95 via the Keith Avenue Ramp

Key Elements:

  • Roadway Resurfacing
  • ADA Pedestrian Ramp Improvements
  • Utility / Drainage Upgrades
  • New Street Lighting
  • Replacing 20-inch water main
  • Upgraded Traffic Signals with Pedestrian Countdowns
  • Reconfiguration of Keith Avenue Ramp to accommodate two way traffic

Roadway Construction:

  • At least one southbound lane of traffic will remain open along Broening Highway north of the Keith Avenue Ramp
  • At least one lane will remain on the Keith Avenue Ramp to accommodate westbound traffic
  • Between the Keith Avenue Ramp and Colgate Bridge two southbound lanes and one northbound lane will remain open
  • Colgate Bridge is anticipated to maintain at least one eastbound lane across the bridge and westbound vehicles will utilize the Colgate Bridge detour

    One lane is not enough for smooth traffic flow, people want to reach their destination on time, they should also provide an alternative route.
